THE TELLING IMAGE - PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE COLLECTION!
The photographic image has always told about people and their circumstances. Photography has a unique power to reveal people’s lives and work and to bring human sorrow and joy to life. In the Preus Museum’s collections one finds many stories. This exhibition shows eleven photographers who have their own pictorial languages.
Oddleiv Apneseth (b. 1955), prize-winning photojournalist for the Norwegian newspaper Bergens Tidende from 1987 until 2007, accompanied and photographed the populace of Jølster, Norway, including those traveling to and through the area, across an entire year. Over 2,000 photographs resulted; thus the selection in the exhibition gives only a small sample of the people and activity—in daily life and more formal circumstances—that characterize this district in western Norway.
